The vihuela's history goes back to Spain in the 1400s, during the Renaissance! 🎶It was created by mixing different string instruments, like the lute and guitar. The famous composer Luis de Milán wrote music for the vihuela, making it even more popular! 📜The vihuela was used by nobles and in royal courts. The vihuela is made from beautiful wood, usually from trees like pine or mahogany. 🌳Its shape is similar to an hourglass, which helps create a lovely sound. The body has a rounded back, while the top is flat. The strings are made of nylon or gut (animal intestines) and are stretched over a fingerboard with frets. Frets are little bars that help players change notes by pressing down on the strings. 🖐️ Most vihuelas have a decorative rosette, which makes them look very fancy! Each instrument is usually around 85-90 cm long.
