Learning how to make slime without glue is a fantastic twist on a timeless favorite. This DIY craft is messy in the best way, sensory, imaginative, and surprisingly simple using everyday ingredients you likely have at home. Perfect for rainy days, after-school play, or anytime you need to keep little ones entertained. Once you’ve nailed the base mixture, the real fun begins. Experiment with soft pastels, glow-in-the-dark greens, or shimmering purples. Or turn it into an adventure with themed batches like alien ooze, magical mermaid gel, or dreamy unicorn swirls straight out of a fairytale.
It also makes for an affordable, hands-on activity at birthday parties. Kids love making their own goo at the table, and it’s easy to prep individual pots for goodie bags or set up take-home DIY slime kits. This no-glue slime version is perfect for tactile fun and open-ended creativity. Just remember, while it’s safe for little fingers to explore, it’s not for eating, so younger children should be supervised during the activity.
Instructions
🧴 Creamy shampoo (½ cup), 🌽 Cornstarch (1 cup and add more if needed, 🌈 Food coloring or glitter (optional), 🥣 Mixing Bowl, 🥄 A spoon or spatula
Add thick shampoo to a bowl. Use about ½ cup of a creamy, thick shampoo as the base. The thicker it is, the better the texture.
Add a few drops of food coloring (optional). If you want to give your slime a colorful twist, add a few drops of food coloring or some glitter.
Mix in cornstarch gradually. Add 1 tablespoon at a time, stirring until the mixture thickens. Aim for a soft dough consistency.
Use your hands to knead the mixture. Once it starts to hold together, knead it like dough. It may be sticky at first, but it'll smooth out.
Adjust the consistency. If it's too sticky, add a little more cornstarch. Too dry? Add a tiny splash of shampoo.
Play or store your no-glue slime. Once the texture feels right, your slime is ready! Store it in a sealed container to keep it soft.
My slime keeps breaking Try adding a little extra shampoo. Go slowly, just a few drops at a time, and knead it well. I want my slime to feel fluffy Add a quick squirt of foaming shaving cream. It'll make the texture light and airy. I need a bigger batch No problem! Just double (or triple) the amounts of shampoo and cornstarch, and mix as usual. It's way too sticky! Dust in a small pinch of cornstarch and knead again. Repeat if needed, but go slowly to avoid drying it out. My mixture won't come together If it's too watery, try switching to a richer formula or chill the mix for a few minutes. I want to make rainbow or marbled slime Divide your dough into separate bowls, mix in different colors and combine!
